Top 3 features of Layers 3. From Vince Yang, Co-founder @ zk.Link

🏘 Layer 3 is built on top of Layer 2. It processes and posts transactions, and in some implementations, it can interact directly with Layer 1.

zk.Link Nexus is one of the Layers 3. It uses zk-SNARKs and can integrate with diverse general-purpose zk-rollups.

👮 Layer 3s need to inherit security from Layer 1s and 2s, address challenges in achieving state consistency, and be competitive in terms of performance and cost-effectiveness to gain adoption.

📊 Layer 3s is gonna compete with Layer 2s because they face the same problems: limited developers, limited attention, and limited bandwidth.

Layer 3 has to come with very obvious advantages that solve real problems of developers because Layer 2s in general have a bigger voice and have a bigger ecosystem. Hence, Layer 3s have to be competitive in terms of performance and cost.

3 lessons from Dave Weisiger, Head of Devrel @ Taiko on scaling Layer 2s:

🛜We need a composable shared network of horizontal Layer 2s that share the same security and share the same bridge and have good bridging between them.

🤖New precompiles can enhance L2 functionality in the context of Ethereum scaling.

🏍New type of rollups will increase scalability. Booster roll-up is a roll-up that executes transactions as if they were executing it on the L1, except it's doing it on L2.

3 ways for Web3 to help AI

🖥Federated Learning: This method trains AI models on distributed data sets without sharing the data itself. Models are updated locally, and only aggregated model parameters are shared across nodes.

🔗Blockchain-based AI: Blockchain technology can provide a secure and tamper-proof infrastructure for managing data and AI models in a decentralized manner.

🔒Distributed and zero-knowledge Machine Learning: DML and ZKML techniques distribute the training and inference of AI models across multiple nodes, minimizing the reliance on centralized servers.

The future of virtual machines in Web3

The space will diverge into two different kinds of architecture:

The first one is general-purpose architectures like RISC and WASM.

The second one is blockchain-specific architectures like the FuelVM and EVM.

The blockchain virtual machines will win because we can extract much more performance out of the machine.

After all, it's designed around what we're using blockchains for, which is things like assets.

Top Web3 Trends in 2024🌟

From Bogdan Habic, Co-Founder and CTO at Tenderly

📊Ethereum scalability improves

With the Cancun-Deneb upgrade and EIP-4844, also known as Proto-Danksharding, just around the corner, the scalability and efficiency of the Ethereum network will greatly increase.

It’s the first step in increasing the network’s number of transactions per second, allowing for higher traffic. It will also introduce several EIPs to lower the cost of on-chain data storage, optimize block space, and improve the structure of cross-chain bridges.

💻RaaS and Appchains

As we witness the greater proliferation of open-source, modular development frameworks and stacks for building blockchain solutions like the OP stack, Arbitrum Orbit, Polygon Superchain, Avalanche Subnets, and Cosmos SDK, combined with the previously mentioned and important Ethereum upgrade, we’re on the side that will see an ever greater number of application-specific chains or rollups springing to action which will further greatly support Ethereum scalability and the overall blockchain ecosystem.

⛓Multichain interoperability

Web3 is already multichain due to EVM interoperability, connectivity, and network effect.

"We strongly believe that we will have many rollups and appchains that will further contribute to the multichain future through EVM interoperability. This will also positively impact the scalability part of the trilemma without sacrificing the security aspect of it."

Why Rust and Solidity are not efficient for blockchain development?
From Nick Dodson, CEO and co-founder of Fuel

💰Solidity has a lot of shortcomings. Firstly, it was designed in a very fragmented way.

Secondly, It was launched very early to solve a problem, which was "How do we build things on Ethereum?".

But it wasn't really holistically designed for either security or just application design, safe application design in general.

🦀Rust and its toolchain are primarily designed for CPUs, not blockchains. Using a systems language for blockchain doesn't feel good.

The toolchain's optimizations and checks are designed for CPU-specific features like caching, which are useless for blockchain, making the toolchain unsuitable for this purpose.

3 insights from Near’s workshop on data availability from ETH Infra Day

Data availability is data that is stored on a network is accessible and retrievable by all network participants.

🚗The main challenge is throughput. If you do it with a lot of participants in a decentralized manner, you run into the problem that not everybody will be able to download all the data.

🧮Data availability is important for rollups. it allows them to trustlessly verify the correctness of computations performed off-chain

💰Using DA is cheaper. For example, Near's data availability layer is 1000x cheaper than posting data directly to Ethereum.
