How to start your own Web3 company?

Recently Zircuit, an EVM-compatible zero-knowledge rollup, announced its testnet launch🟢

We asked the project team a few questions about the new solution:

1. What's the main difference between Zircuit & other zkEVM roll-ups?🔋

Zircuit is an EVM-compatible ZK rollup with a hybrid approach, combining ZK proofs and optimistic infrastructure, providing sequencer-level security to block malicious transactions while allowing developers to detect hacking attempts.

2. Right now there is public testing. What results would you consider a success?📈

We are looking for signs of stability at every level and every future step of development. Right now it’s all about testing.

We have a lot more features in development so we are looking forward to testing them in the real-world environment and traffic. We also want to observe some general network and rollup metrics like node uptime, the stability of connection to L1, statistics of the ETH supply and its handling, and more.

3. Zircuit has no governance token. Why did the team decide to use ETH & can we expect to have a governing token in the future?💲

ETH is something that everyone is used to and we wanted to make the experience as seamless as possible for both developers and users. At this time, we have no plans for a token.

1. Ethereum stands strong: although revenue fell 47.3% quarter-over-quarter, ETH still accounted for over 90% of total L1 revenue🔹

2. SKALE is leading transactions growth with 241% quarter-over-quarter increase in average daily transactions🤯

3. The number of developers is falling, the total number of full-time developers across the Layer-1 solutions decreased by 14% quarter-over-quarter, reaching 3.6K. However, the decrease was driven by newcomers leaving the area🏃

Blockchain bridges 101: trusted and trustless

GM everyone! Let’s get back to Web3 basics and recall the difference between 2 types of blockchain bridge systems.

🌉What is a bridge? A blockchain bridge enables communication between various types of blockchains. Without these bridges, it's essentially impossible due to differing rules and consensus mechanisms.

Bridges allow to:
1️⃣Transfer data between different blockchains - for example, BNB Chain and Ethereum.
2️⃣Transfer data between different layers - for example, Ethereum (L1) and Polygon (L2)

There are 2 types of bridge implementations:

🟢Trusted bridges - have some third party between blockchains, who holds the custody of the assets. This method provides speed and efficiency.

The primary issue here is that this kind of bridge has a vulnerability: if the custodian is hacked or compromised, it can disrupt all blockchain operations.

🔵Trustless bridges - act without any sort of regulator or custodian. Instead, they use cryptographic proofs and smart contracts. This is a more decentralized version of bridge technology, which doesn’t have a single point of failure (custodian or regulator).

The tradeoff is that they involve greater technical complexity and are frequently targeted by hackers seeking to exploit vulnerabilities and siphon off the bridge's assets. Because of that, trustless bridges are considered to be less safe from outside attacks, if the smart contract’s code isn’t fully audited.

"Why we need alternative VMs and not just EVM" — insight from Felipe Argento, Founding engineer at Cartesi:

“Because EVM is so novel, not all tooling is available for it. So often you need to create something yourself, and it brings huge security risks since it wasn’t battle-tested enough.

It’s much easier to build stuff when you have libraries with years of knowledge and compatibility.”
