🇸🇦🇾🇪🇺🇸🇵🇰Saudi Arabia is preparing a new offensive against the Houthis in Yemen, likely in the coming weeks, with the aim of regaining control of the Bab al-Mandab Strait and securing Red Sea shipping.
Riyadh is weighing either a limited attack on coastal areas or a broader offensive on multiple fronts. More than 100,000 Yemeni soldiers could be mobilized with Saudi air support; the United States would provide intelligence and military advisers, but is not expected to take part directly in the fighting.
Pakistan has deployed between 30,000 and 40,000 troops inside Saudi Arabia to help defend against Houthi missile and drone attacks. Riyadh believes peace talks cannot resume while the Houthis control Bab al-Mandab, and the operation could begin as late as after the U.S. midterm elections.
