New Peterhof Railway Station

Part 1

New Peterhof Railway Station is an architectural gem, located in Peterhof, Russia, designed by the renowned architect Nikolai Benois. Completed in 1857, it was part of the Railway built to connect St. Petersburg with the famed Peterhof Palace complex.

Benois was tasked with creating a station that reflected the grandeur of its destination, and he delivered a striking design influenced by Neo-Gothic architecture. The New Peterhof Railway Station became not just a transportation hub, but also an architectural highlight of the area.

Part 2

Nikolai Benois modeled the New Peterhof Railway Station after the Orvieto Cathedral in Italy. The design of the station mimics the cathedral-like appearance, with pointed arches, decorative spires, and towering facades that give it the look of a medieval fortress.

The Neo-Gothic style, uncommon for Russian railway stations at the time, sets the New Peterhof Station apart as both a functional building and an architectural monument. Today, it continues to serve passengers while retaining its historical significance and unique architectural charm, making it a gateway to the opulent world of Peterhof.
