🇸🇦 | Saudi Arabia acknowledges fierce overnight clashes in Riyadh and reveals destruction of a residential neighbourhood:
Saudi Arabia on Wednesday acknowledged fierce confrontations in the capital, Riyadh, over the previous 24 hours as Yemen carried out its largest operations deep inside Saudi territory.
The Saudi Civil Defense reported the destruction of an entire residential neighbourhood in Riyadh containing around 15 homes, attributing the damage to what it described as shrapnel from interceptor missiles. This suggests that debris from the interception system fell to the ground after attempts to intercept incoming targets failed.
Saudi media had earlier quoted Turki Al-Maliki, spokesperson for the Saudi-led coalition, confirming that Saudi Arabia had faced its largest aerial attack. Al-Maliki reported approximately 14 ballistic and cruise missiles, along with several drones.
These acknowledgements reveal the scale and intensity of Yemen’s latest attack, particularly as international reports have indicated direct hits on Aramco refineries in Riyadh and its headquarters in Dhahran. They also point to the failure of Saudi claims that some of the missiles and drones had been intercepted.
The Yemeni Armed Forces had announced in a briefing by their official spokesperson, Brigadier General Yahya Saree, that they had launched their largest military operation, targeting Aramco’s main headquarters in Dhahran, its refineries in Riyadh, and King Khalid International Airport.
The latest operation came in response to Saudi aggression against Yemen, which recently targeted the headquarters of the oil company in the Yemeni capital and facilities in Hodeidah, in addition to more than 2,200 Saudi airstrikes and missile attacks on Yemeni cities.
