— Just a random video of Gaza from before the October 7, 2023 war brings up questions of all kinds. It confirms that we won, but we still do not know from where we would bring back those hundreds of thousands of families, people, children, places, hopes, memories, and loves.
You see ordinary streets, homes, shops, schools, neighbourhoods, children playing, families living their everyday lives, people making plans for tomorrow, and suddenly you realize the scale of what has been lost. It was never just buildings and infrastructure. It was an entire living world, with generations of memories, relationships, dreams, and futures attached to every street and every home.
Sometimes a random old video says more than any statistic ever could. It reminds us that behind every number were people who had names, families, friendships, routines, ambitions, laughter, arguments, celebrations, and ordinary days that they believed would continue.
We may talk about victory, resistance, survival, and rebuilding, but the hardest question remains: how do you bring back a world that existed before the destruction? How do you restore the childhoods, the families, the homes, the memories, and the lives that can never simply be rebuilt?
