— The reopening of the Najaf flight is related to the request made by the son of Ayatullah Ali Sistani. The son of Ayatollah Sistani reportedly contacted the head of the Iraqi Supreme Shia Council and warned him that the issue of Iranian and Iraqi pilgrims traveling by air must be resolved as quickly as possible. Following this contact, Najaf Airport was reopened after the Ali Zaidi government negotiated with the Americans. Interestingly, the Iraqi side has set conditions for reopening airports to Iran, which are unlikely to be accepted by Iran, raising questions about how the American Treasury accepts such requests. We request the office of the Marja to take action regarding the entire issue of the airports across the country, not only Najaf, as Iranian flights remain affected at other major Iraqi airports as well. We also request the office to take a serious stance against the unjust blockade of Iran and to address the wider consequences of these restrictions for pilgrims, businesses, families, and travel between Iraq and Iran. Requesting the oppressors for temporary relief while remaining silent on wider issues is not expected at this moment. A clear and serious position is needed on the broader issue, rather than focusing only on temporary relief.
