Do college admissions officers start reading applications right away, or do they wait until after the deadline to start and make a decision whether to admit someone? ©Quora
I’m a seasonal admissions reader for a large research university, and each year I start reading applications around the first or second week of December. However, our application deadline is November 15th. During the time in between the deadline and the time we start reading applications, evaluators go through and verify that all the files are complete and accurate (GPA matches on course grid and transcript, met basic credit req, not missing test scores).
I know there are admissions officers at our school who start reading and assessing applications as soon as they’re are submitted just to get a jump start on the 40,000 we receive each year, but no final decisions are made until every application is evaluated. That way, we can make decisions based on the totality of the applications received, which helps to ensure we create and build a diverse student body.
