AC motor parts and their uses:
An AC induction motor is one of the most widely used machines in industrial and commercial systems. From pumps and compressors to fans, conveyors, machine tools, and process equipment, its reliability depends on the proper operation of many mechanical and electrical components.
🔵 1. AC Motor (Complete)
The complete motor converts electrical energy into mechanical rotational energy and combines the stator, rotor, shaft, bearings, cooling system, terminals, and housing.
🏗 2. Motor Frame (Yoke)
The frame provides structural support and protects the internal components while helping maintain proper alignment.
🧲 3. Stator
The stationary part containing the magnetic core and windings. When energized, it creates the rotating magnetic field.
🔄 4. Rotor
The rotating element that interacts with the stator's magnetic field to generate torque.
🔩 5. Shaft
Transfers the torque produced by the rotor to the connected machine, such as a pump, fan, or compressor.
⚙️ 6. Bearings
Support the shaft and allow smooth rotation while minimizing friction and controlling radial and axial movement.
🛡 7. End Shield
Supports the bearings and helps maintain accurate rotor and shaft alignment.
🔌 8. Terminal Box
Provides a protected enclosure for connecting the motor to the external electrical supply.
🔗 9. Terminal Board
Provides connection points for the motor winding leads and allows appropriate electrical configurations.
🌬 10. Cooling Fan
Circulates air over the motor housing to remove heat generated during operation.
🛡 11. Fan Cover
Protects the cooling fan from accidental contact and external objects while permitting airflow.
⚡️ 12. Capacitor
Used in applicable single-phase AC motors for starting or running functions. Three-phase induction motors generally do not require a starting capacitor.
🔧 13. Coupling
Connects the motor shaft to driven equipment and transfers mechanical power.
🔑 14. Key
Locks the shaft and coupling or other mounted component together to transmit torque without relative rotation.
🕳 15. Keyway
The machined slot in the shaft or hub where the key is installed.
🦶 16. Motor Feet
Provide a stable mounting arrangement for securely fixing the motor to its foundation or equipment base.
🏷 17. Name Plate
Provides essential operating data such as voltage, current, power, speed, frequency, phase, insulation class, duty, and protection rating.
📐 18. Wiring Diagram
Shows the correct motor terminal connections, including applicable star (Y) and delta (Δ) configurations.
🏗 19. Lifting Eye Bolt
Provides a designated lifting point for handling and installing the motor with suitable lifting equipment.
🛢 20. Grease Nipple
Allows lubricant to be supplied to bearings designed for periodic relubrication.
