Came across a tweet that posted this image stating “i can’t believe someone solved recipe design decades ago and everyone just decided to ignore it”

This is quite nice actually. The funny thing is it was “solved” by an engineer, not a designer. Michael Chu came up with this format and had a website Cooking for Engineers launched back in 2004.

Take any type of complex information and make its structure visually obvious. Before I even start reading, I already understand what needs to happen, in what order, and what depends on what. The text fills in the details, but the layout does most of the work.

Sure, some complex recipes probably wouldn’t fit this structure, but I imagine it would work for 90% of what most people cook.

1-Bit Symphony (2010) by Tristan Perich is a music album released as a small electronic object inside a CD case. Instead of containing an actual CD recording, the case holds a hand-assembled circuit and a microchip that plays the piece live through a headphone jack.

The whole composition is built using 1-bit audio, the simplest form of digital sound, just on and off signals. I love this example because the format, the technology, and the composition are all the same thing.

Geological epochs have their markers: fossils and specific rocks help trace events that happened millions of years ago.

If human civilization ever seizes to exist, and Earth will be explored by archeologists of the new civilization, they will be able to trace us by one of the proposed geological markers of the Anthropocene epoch — Plastiglomerate.

It is a new type of stone formed by the intermingling of melted plastic, beach sediment, basaltic lava fragments, and organic debris.

81% of executives believe they have significantly improved productivity through AI, while workers waste 7.9 hours per week dealing with digital frustrations — the equivalent of losing one full working day, every week.

You’ve definitely seen a 404 NOT FOUND error — when a server cannot find the content you requested. I just learned that among other status codes hides 418 I’M A TEAPOT, which indicates that the server refuses to brew coffee because it is, permanently, a teapot.

Added as an April Fools joke in 1998, this official protocol exists in the digital space we use daily, yet goes unnoticed.

The Reading Brain in a Digital Culture.

Kind of brilliant. If you usually kill time scrolling Instagram, WhatsApp or any other social media app, this book gives you the same muscle memory, only instead of DMs you’re reading dense, scientific, analytical texts. The whole thing uses the visual language of social media and flips it for more meaningful reading.
