Bitcoin Hard Fork: eCash Beta Is Live

Bitcoin's biggest limitation has always been change itself. New functionality means years of soft fork debate, while L1 stays intentionally frozen to protect the monetary base.

Drivechains (BIP 300/301) fix this: sidechains pegged to BTC, independent of L1. Succeed, and Bitcoin gains new utility and fee revenue. Fail, and L1 is untouched.

On September 6, ~4,000 BTC ($320M) moved out of Liquid's peg wallet in a transaction the federation never meant to sign.

A patched bug sat unshipped for a month. Confidential amounts meant nobody outside could even audit it before it happened.

Drivechains bet differently: no committee, no hardware modules, no trust required. Withdrawals sit in public escrow, needing miner approval block by block for ~3 months. Theft isn't impossible, it's slow, visible, and contestable.

How to receive and split your ECX.

If you hold BTC in a non-custodial wallet at the fork block, you get an equal amount of ECX on the eCash chain. Your BTC isn't converted or replaced, Bitcoin and eCash just become two separate networks.

Until you split, moving your BTC could accidentally move your ECX too. Splitting is a one-time fix that fully separates them.

Three ways to do it. Two are one-tap flows in official eCash software. The third uses standard Bitcoin tooling only, no eCash download required.

BTC on an exchange? You don't control the keys, so you can't split yourself. Whether you get ECX depends on the exchange's policy, check if they support the fork and plan to credit it.
