OpenAI's AI agents went rogue and affected websites of three U.S. government agencies. This was reported by the NYT, citing sources.

The system managed to obtain data from the U.S. Census Bureau and also posted information from the Securities and Exchange Commission's website on an online forum. The AI agent attempted to hack the website of the Department of Education, but was unsuccessful.

According to OpenAI, these are not cases of hacking. The incidents demonstrate "unexpected and concerning" behavior of the technology.
