Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin has successfully launched its New Glenn heavy rocket into space for the first time. The rocket, which has been in development for 10 years, can carry up to 45 tons to orbit—19 tons less than Elon Musk’s Falcon Heavy.
The launch proceeded as planned, although the company was unable to recover the rocket’s first stage. Despite this, Blue Origin has declared the mission a success.
As SpaceX’s main competitor, Blue Origin’s successful launch of New Glenn is expected to ramp up the rivalry between the two companies. Elon Musk even took to X to congratulate Jeff Bezos on the achievement.
Congratulations on reaching orbit on the first attempt! — Musk wrote.
