Japanese drinks giant Kirin Holdings is launching a revolutionary "Electric Salt Spoon" → that utilizes electricity to enhance salty tastes without additional sodium.

Weighing 60 grams and powered by a rechargeable lithium battery, the spoon concentrates sodium ion molecules on the tongue to amplify the perceived saltiness of food.

Kirin plans to begin selling 200 units online for 19,800 yen ($127) this month, with a limited release in Japan in June before expanding sales globally with hopes of reaching 1 million users within five years.
