Private Repo Rates #primers

First, we have the private complex in repo. These market rates (Triparty, GCF, and DVP) are determined by private repo participants but are still influenced, to a large degree, by the Federal Reserve’s monetary policies and “alphabet soup" facilities — like the Fed’s BTFP and RRP.

“Private rates” is also a bit misleading, as repo markets are fairly regulated and most transactions are now backed by government securities, primarily U.S. Treasuries and debt securities issued by government-sponsored enterprises (GSEs), such as Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and Ginnie Mae.
