WHO is appalled by the latest evacuation order, demanding that one million people move from Gaza City to a so-called “humanitarian zone” in the south designated by Israel.

To civilians in Gaza: WHO and partners remain in Gaza City.

To the international community: Act.

This catastrophe is human-made, and the responsibility rests with us all.

DYK that #suicide claims more than 720,000 lives every year?

Each life lost leaves a profound impact on families, friends, colleagues and entire communities.

This #WorldSuicidePreventionDay, let’s talk openly about suicide to challenge harmful myths, reduce stigma and foster compassionate conversations.

We must move from silence to openness, from stigma to empathy, and from neglect to support. We must create environments where people feel safe to speak up and seek help.

Shifting the narrative on suicide also means driving systemic change, where governments prioritise and invest in quality mental health care and policies to ensure everyone gets the support they need.

Famine was declared in parts of #Gaza two weeks ago.

And where hunger goes, disease follows.

We call on the Government of Israel to end this inhumane war. If it will not, I call on its allies to use their influence to stop it.

The mpox Emergency Committee met yesterday and advised me that in its view, the situation no longer represents an international health emergency. I have accepted that advice.

Lifting the emergency declaration does not mean the threat is over, nor that our response will stop.

In response to the famine in #Gaza, today WHO distributed critical nutritional supplies to support hospitalized infants and patients at Al Nasser Hospital:
• 4900 units of infant and high-protein formula
• 2000 feeding components

These supplies are vital for premature and hospitalized newborns who cannot be breastfed due to medical conditions, as well as for patients requiring specialized nutritional support.

We continue to call for scaled up, sustained, and safe access of food and medicines into Gaza.

The best medicine is peace.

The #Gaza famine, a man-made catastrophe, has unfolded in front of the world’s eyes.

We saw it coming.
We warned about it.
We were not allowed to stop it.

Now, as we count the lives lost to this intentional starvation, there is only one question to ask world leaders: Where is humanity?

End the blockade of aid — TODAY.
CEASEFIRE!

Even in war, healthcare is sacred.

Yet in the past two years, WHO has recorded almost 2500 attacks on health.

On World Humanitarian Day, we call on world leaders to protect health workers and patients.

The best medicine is peace.

Imagine....

Your home is destroyed.

You are surrounded by hostilities.

You are hungry.

You are thirsty.

You are injured.

Your child is sick.

You can't reach help.

This is the life of people in #Gaza.

Let aid in via all routes.

Ceasefire.

It's been a year since I declared a public health emergency of international concern over the upsurge of #mpox in the #DRC and other countries in Africa.

Since then 28 countries in the African region have reported nearly 50,000 confirmed cases.

Overall, few deaths have been reported and mortality rates are low. But for immunocompromised patients, particularly those with uncontrolled HIV, the risk remains high.

We are seeing increasing capacity in countries to manage mpox outbreaks.

The declaration of the public health emergency a year ago brought much-needed resources for controlling these outbreaks.

But drastic cuts to foreign assistance are hindering our efforts. They are impacting access to vaccines and diagnostics, and full implementation of public health measures.

We call on all countries to remain vigilant and prioritise bringing outbreaks under control. We call on donor countries to show their solidarity and support to ending the global emergency.

Today WHO supported the medical evacuation of 32 child and 6 adult patients from #Gaza, alongside 99 companions:

-25 child and 6 adult patients were evacuated to Italy
-5 child patients were evacuated to Belgium
-2 child patients were being evacuated to Türkiye

We thank European Commission Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations and all governments that have shown solidarity with Gaza’s critical patients by offering them specialized care.

However, more than 14,800 patients still need lifesaving medical care that is not available in Gaza. We call on more countries to step forward and offer support, and for referral routes to the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, to be restored before it is too late.

Ceasefire! Peace is the best medicine.

The voices of young people matter -- not only on #YouthDay, but every day. They have unique insights and play a critical role.

In my conversation with WHO Youth Council members and young people across the world, I learned a lot and enjoyed hearing and responding to the challenging questions they posed: https://www.youtube.com/live/ogf3wg6U51E?si=U382Mm56jD7F0Bj_

I'm even more committed than ever to strengthen the participation of the Youth Council - and all youth - in WHO's work. Their perspectives and energy are vital at this time of headwinds and opportunities in global health.

I congratulate the government and people of #Kenya on the elimination of human African trypanosomiasis or sleeping sickness.

Kenya joins the growing rank of countries freeing their populations of sleeping sickness, and bringing Africa one step closer to being free from neglected tropical diseases!

Yesterday, WHO supported the medical evacuation of 47 patients and 129 companions from #Gaza, despite the ongoing challenges to humanitarian operations and access constraints.

Patients travelled to:
- Spain: 13 child and one adult patients
- Türkiye: 2 adult patients
- France: 4 child and one adult patients
- Norway: 6 child and 2 adult patients
- Jordan: 18 child patients

We are grateful to all the governments and health workers for their support and specialised care for the critical patients from Gaza.

Over 14,000 patients are still in need of urgent care. We urge more countries to step forward to accept patients for medical evacuations.

Ceasefire!
