I’ve always found it interesting that in Spider-Man 3, Peter frees himself from the symbiote in a church while the bells are ringing.
Think about it: he gets infected by a dark alien symbiote that acts exactly like demonic possession.
At first it makes him feel powerful, but it also turns him arrogant and cruel, and he pushes everyone away. Then he realizes the "suit" is really a parasite eating away at his soul, but he can't rip it off on his own.
So he goes to the one place on earth that can save him: a Church. He climbs up into the belfry in absolute agony, trying to fight the darkness, and then the massive church bells start to ring.
Here's the thing: in Catholic tradition, the ringing of church bells is believed to drive away demons.
Back in the day, bishops used to bless new bells with holy oil (chrism), the same oil used at baptisms, confirmations and when priests are ordained.
Then they prayed: "At the sound of these bells may the enemy always flee." Exorcists say the devil HATES bells, because they call people to church to worship God.
And that's exactly what happens in the movie: the ringing of the holy bells physically tortures the symbiote until Peter can finally rip the demon off his chest and be free.
