The U.S. military has approved its first execution by firing squad in over 60 years.

Trump just signed off on it for the Army psychiatrist behind the 2009 Fort Hood shooting.

He opened fire on soldiers getting ready to deploy, killing 13 and wounding 32.

He was sentenced to death back in 2013, and the Pentagon isn't hiding how it feels, saying his judgment day has finally come.

The Army now gets to pick the time and place, though he could still drag things out for years with legal moves.

Military executions are extremely rare though. Only 4 men are currently on military death row, and the U.S. military hasn't executed anyone since 1961.

So this isn't something the military does often, or quickly.
