Radiograph of a Family chronicles the life of Firouzeh Khosrovani, the daughter of a secular father and a devout Muslim mother who coexist under one roof in Tehran. When the Islamic Revolution took place, it affected every facet of their family life. Torn between two worlds, Khosravani found herself caught in the middle of her mother’s rigid religious practices and her father’s progressive-minded lifestyle. In a way, this relationship mirrors the history of contemporary Iran and the country’s oscillation between tradition and assimilation.
Khosravani delicately weaves together her family history, beginning pre-revolution and continuing post-revolution, making use of archival footage, old letters read aloud, family photos, and voice over. In the hands of Khosrovani , irreconcilable differences, tension, the country’s divided society, and unanswered questions become the ingredients for revolutionary cinema.
