Qelich • Directed by Pouria Nouri • 2021 • Iran

This documentary centers on the life of Vahid Qelich, a former goalkeeper for Iran’s national football team and coach of the Persepolis Football Club. Though the majority of the film is an intimate interview with Qelich, this documentary may also be seen as a textured "memory piece" in which viewers rewatch Qelich’s time as a goalkeeper and his coaching years, during which time he was known for his sarcastic strictness. Eventually, Qelich was pushed out of football and lost his fame. After years of isolation, dejection, and poverty he regained his popularity, this time not through football but instead in the virtual world, posting Instagram videos and humorous clips about everyday topics.
