Blue Barrier takes a look at the architecture of Tehran and investigates the relationship between the city and its highways and bridges and how they affect people’s lives and social unrest.

By weaving together interviews with urban planners, architects, drivers stuck in traffic, and city officials, Bahrami and Kaboli reveal the contrast between urban infrastructure and citizen behavior. While some people criticize the building of bridges and highways because of the traffic and air and noise pollution they produce, others celebrate the convenience of having personal cars and the abundance of “beautiful” and modern bridges. However, what cannot be overlooked is the loss of urban beauty and the city’s transformation into a toxic, polluted, and amorphous entity.
