Men of Fire (2) • Directed by Sepideh Farsi • 2001

Following a group of firemen in Tehran, Men of Fire captures the harrowing, fire-related incidents that occur in the city and shows how the firemen courageously save people’s lives. This documentary begins with the rituals of Chaharshanbe-Soori, occurring on the last Tuesday of the year, when Iranians jump over fires built in the streets in celebration. This documentary questions these rituals, asserting that, despite their cultural significance, they are in fact harmful to both the people and the city. The film focuses on the tragic events that highlight the devastating battle between life and death. It is a formidable and eye-opening documentary that exposes the defiant resilience of firemen.
