A samurai pauses beneath tall pines as a gentle breeze passes through. Nothing rushes — nothing resists. This is Yuzen, the serene acceptance that allows time to unfold naturally.

REIHO – 霊峰 – The sacred mountain

白雲へ
呼吸あずけて
道ひらく

To the white clouds
I entrust my breath—
and the path unfolds.

High upon the sacred mountain, a samurai exhales into the cold morning air. Clouds drift below his feet, and the world feels newly born. This is Reihō — the summit where spirit and sky become one.

MUSHIN – 無心 – The state of no-mind

月淡し
心の形も
消えてゆく

Pale moon above—
even the shape of my heart
fades into stillness.

A samurai walks beneath a pale moon, feeling his thoughts dissolve into the night. No hesitation, no attachment — only the quiet flow of existence. This is Mushin, the state of a mind untouched by fear or desire.

SEIJAKU – 静寂 – The stillness of silence

山気澄み
影ひとすじの
声もなし

The mountain air clears—
a single line of shadow
breathes without a voice.

A lone samurai sits upon a quiet ridge as the world grows still. The wind rests, the trees fall silent, and even the shadows seem to hold their breath. This is Seijaku — the deep, sacred quiet that reveals what lies within.

SHUGYO – 修行 – Ascetic training

山の道
痛みも息も
ただ通る

On the mountain path,
pain and breath alike
simply pass through.

A samurai does not seek comfort first and foremost. He learns to endure hardship without breaking. This is Shugyo, a form of training that refines the will.

SUIEN – 翠園 – The emerald tea garden

飛び石の
苔むす道を
一歩ずつ

Stepping stones in moss,
one slow step at a time now—
the world falls away.

The tea garden is not merely decorative. It is a threshold. Every stone that is laid, every lantern that is lit, every drop of water in the basin is a preparation of the mind. By the time the guest reaches the door of the tea room, they have left the outside world behind.
