According to the same sources, a live-fire training exercise struck a gas line or gas well on the base, triggering an explosion on Saturday afternoon. This matches earlier local reports that an artillery shell had hit an active gas well on the range.
Edmonton hospitals remain under a disaster protocol, and the military is reportedly using classrooms in local schools to help with the response.
