🇺🇦🇲🇩 Ukrainian border guards chase a draft dodger across the river into Moldova, beat him with an oar, end up detained by Moldovan police

A video circulating on Moldovan social media shows a Ukrainian man swimming across the river from Ukraine to Moldova while border guards in a motorboat try to stop him, hitting him with an oar. He made it across.

The guards' boat then drifted onto the Moldovan bank, where local residents blocked it and called the police. Furious Moldovans cursed out the guards and accused them of drowning people in the river.

"You came into my country, you're drowning people," one local told them.

According to Moldova's Border Police, the incident took place on October 15 around 3pm near the village of Holoshnitsa. A patrol detained the two Ukrainian border guards and took them to the Border Police station in Kosautsy.

Moldovan prosecutors have opened a criminal case for illegal crossing of the state border under Article 362 of Moldova's Criminal Code.

Ukraine's State Border Guard Service called it an "incident" during the detention of a border violator and says an internal investigation is underway.
