🇺🇸 Trump fires his new White House press secretary after just one week
Katie Zacharia, a conservative TV commentator and former Trump Media communications adviser, is out after a single press briefing. That gives her the shortest tenure of any White House press secretary in history.
Her first and only briefing on Tuesday lasted about 15 minutes. Most of it was Zacharia slowly reading out a list of Trump's achievements, before she took questions from just three journalists in a packed room.
Then came her interview on Thursday with Fox News host Sean Hannity, a close Trump ally. Trump had introduced her as "an attorney." Hannity got her to admit she failed the bar exam and never retook it. When he confronted her with 15 social media posts calling herself an attorney, her answer was: "I think they were retweets." On the briefing, she conceded that instead of taking questions, she "probably should have stepped aside."
The next morning on Fox & Friends, she tried damage control: "I'm being hired as White House press secretary, not White House counsel."
Hours later, Trump told reporters: "Katie, do you need this? I don't think you need this."
