π¦π± Albania: student protests turn into third day of street clashes, demand Rama's resignation
Clashes between students and police continued for a third straight day on Thursday in Tirana. Police pushed back crowds trying to reach the Education Ministry and parliament, while protesters threw stones at officers. Parliament cancelled its scheduled session as the violence flared nearby.
The protests started on Tuesday outside the Education Ministry over university conditions and the high cost of living, then quickly turned into calls for the government to resign. Students have since joined the so-called "Flamingo" anti-government movement, which has spent months protesting a coastal development project linked to Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner and is calling for PM Edi Rama to step down over corruption allegations.
The unrest is spreading. Protests have reached several smaller cities, with students boycotting universities. Police say 65 people were arrested on Wednesday alone.
Rama, who began his fourth term last year, accuses the opposition of organizing the protests. His interior minister went further, blaming the opposition and unnamed "foreign actors" for exploiting student anger to destabilize the country.
