The individual is a correspondent for the "Hokkaido Shimbun" newspaper.

According to the FSB, he was collecting information about Russia's defense capabilities with the intention of using it against the country's security.

The man was detained the day before he was scheduled to leave Russia. He has been taken to Moscow. A criminal case has been opened against him.
