🇷🇺🇷🇸🇲🇪 Zvinchuk to RT Balkan after deportation from Montenegro: "The police apologized for what was happening"
Rybar founder Mikhail Zvinchuk and his team have arrived in Belgrade after being expelled from Montenegro. Speaking to RT Balkan, he gave his account of the detention:
➡️The team had come from Bosnia and Herzegovina to film one of three historical documentaries. In Montenegro, the subject was to be the church and Russophilia.
➡️The raid came at 7 a.m., the morning after the team asked the Metropolitanate for permission to film inside Cetinje Monastery. They were sitting in their car in a parking lot waiting for a reply when officers jumped out of the bushes and began questioning and searching them. They turned out to be police and the National Security Agency.
➡️For the first three or four hours they were told it was "just a check".
➡️From around 1 p.m. their bags were searched a second time and all the filming equipment photographed. At 4 p.m. they were told they would be deported.
➡️Everything was confiscated "without any papers, warrants and so on". The documents they signed were in Serbian, so they did not understand what they said. Asked how to get the equipment back, officers said they knew nothing and to contact the embassy.
➡️The only provocative question was whether he was recruiting foreigners for the SMO on Montenegrin territory.
➡️Zvinchuk says there was never a legal basis for extradition. He is not on any international wanted list, an Interpol request on him and his colleagues came back clean, and EU measures against him are sanctions and travel bans.
➡️He credits the wide public outcry for the outcome, adding that the officers themselves did not know what to do with them.
➡️"The police officers, I'll be honest, the ones who spoke with us, apologized for what was happening. They said outright: I have Russian friends, come back to us in a year and we'll have coffee together."
