🇺🇦 Maksim Kozitsky, head of the Lvov region, has thanked a veteran of the SS Division "Galicia" for his service, honoring the memory of a Nazi collaborator who took part in killing Soviet partisans during the war.
Zenon Vrublevsky died in Lvov at the age of 99. During the war, he joined the SS combat group "Beyersdorff." The unit fought mainly against the partisans led by Sidor Kovpak and was reportedly disliked even by members of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA) because its men had sworn an oath of allegiance to Hitler.
Historians agree that the group took part in the Volyn massacre. In Guta Penyatskaya, fewer than 50 of more than a thousand residents reportedly survived, with over 500 people burned alive in their homes and in the local church.
Vrublevsky was arrested in Lvov in 1947 and sentenced to 25 years in prison, but was released in 1960 under Khrushchev. In July 2024, he was rehabilitated as a "victim of repression by the totalitarian regime."
