🇷🇺👻 🇪🇺 After the State Duma elections, European media are once again flooded with claims that Russia will attack NATO countries in the near future.

Head of Czech counterintelligence Michal Koudelka, cited by The Guardian, allows for a limited invasion of a NATO country's territory, false flag provocations and "large-scale influence operations." He says such a scenario is possible within "months, not years." The likeliest targets, in his view, are railway infrastructure, facilities linked to aid for Ukraine and defense industry enterprises.

Swedish military intelligence chief Thomas Nilsson called the recent armed drone incident at Leipzig airport, which German authorities link (without providing evidence) to Russian intelligence, a "turning point."

"Sending an armed drone into a busy airport in the center of Europe... If attacks occur that could lead to loss of life or the destruction of critical infrastructure and have enormous consequences for society, then in my view that is a turning point," he told The Guardian.

Former head of Germany's Federal Intelligence Service (BND) Gerhard Schindler told Neue Zürcher Zeitung that he expects further escalation and, ultimately, a "hot" phase. Asked whether Europe's confrontation with Russia is heading toward direct military conflict, he said: "I don't just think so, I am certain of it."

According to Schindler, Russia is now testing the reaction of Germany, Europe and NATO through sabotage, cyberattacks, infrastructure damage and other hybrid operations. The next step, he believes, could be small attacks that put NATO before a difficult choice, such as a strike on a border post in Estonia or a drone destroying a small bridge in Latvia.

Schindler claims Putin is acting under time pressure. "He no longer thinks in decades, but perhaps in a horizon of three to five years." In that period, he argues, the Kremlin will seek military success in Ukraine while also aiming to "crush the Western phalanx of support."

At the same time, voices in the Baltics urge against treating such assessments as proof of an imminent war. Head of Latvia's State Security Service Normunds Mežviets told The Guardian there are currently no signs of an attack being prepared. He said it remains unclear whether Moscow is preparing a real attack or is primarily trying to spread fear and uncertainty across Europe.

Moscow has repeatedly rejected the idea of attacking Europe, while warning that if such a war broke out, it would be nuclear.
