There are mainly 7 types of data stores.
🔹 𝗥𝗗𝗕𝗠𝗦
Designed for transactions (OLTP). Most apps (including banking) that you use are powered by it.
🔹 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝘂𝗺𝗻𝗮𝗿
Data in columns are stored together (unlike RDBMS, where row cells are stored together). Common for analytics (OLAP) and data science payloads.
🔹 𝗞𝗲𝘆-𝗩𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗲
Probably the most common NoSQL store. Think of it as a dictionary or hash table.
🔹 𝗪𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝘂𝗺𝗻𝘀
A large number of (potentially sparse) columns.
🔹 𝗗𝗼𝗰𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁
Another very popular NoSQL database for hierarchical data.
🔹 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗽𝗵
To store all sorts of relationships between entities.
🔹 𝗕𝗹𝗼𝗯
To store anything, but mostly unstructured data.
