When analyzing a character we usually look at their feelings, thoughts, actions etc. Knowing a character's thoughts & feelings adds a depth to the said character, and you can understand how & why their actions are affected or not by those feelings/thoughts.
But when it comes to criticizing a character it can be a bit more tricky, since sometimes feelings/thoughts don't affect said action (or affect them in ways you wouldn't expect). So that's why "thought crimes/heroism aren't real" is something important to remember when analyzing a character. And if someone wants a more accurate analysis they need to take this in consideration.....
