Capitalism Caused Mass Migration

The modern capitalist does not ask whether a nation has a people, a history, or a future. He asks only whether labor is cheap, markets are open, and profit can be increased. If the local workman demands a just wage, the capitalist does not reform his greed; he imports a stranger willing to accept less.

The employer who replaces his own countrymen with cheaper labor does not love the migrant. He uses him. He does not honor the local worker. He discards him. And when the wages fall, the rents rise, and the communities weaken, he calls the ruin “economic growth" and "progress."

“He that oppresses the poor to increase his own substance shall himself give to one that is richer, and shall be in want.”

— Proverbs 22:16

“Not to share our own riches with the poor is a robbery of the poor, and a depriving them of their livelihood; and that which we possess is not only our own, but also theirs.”

— St. John Chrysostom, On Wealth and Poverty: Discourse 2 on the Rich Man and Lazarus

The Lie of the Empty Timeline

The enemy compares pagan Rome at its height with Christian Europe in its ruin, then compares Christian Europe with the modern West at its height and calls the difference proof against Christ.

Rome fell for many reasons before Christianity ruled it: Civil war, corruption, fiscal decay, invasion, and imperial exhaustion. The Church did not burn civilization; she carried it through the ashes. Monasteries preserved the books. Cathedrals raised stone toward Heaven. Universities, hospitals, laws, charities, and schools grew from Christian soil.

The Enlightenment did not create Europe from nothing. It inherited the order, learning, and moral inheritance built by Christendom and then claimed the inheritance as its own.

Rome before Christianity fought constantly in wars within Europe. Rome brought slaves from the Near East to Europe. Rome depended on it Mediterranean trade while Christianity extended its trade around the world with its empires.

Columbus Day: Against the Lies of Both Camps

On Columbus Day, the modern world does not remember Christopher Columbus; it uses him. To one faction, he is the great criminal of history, the inventor of every later evil committed in the Americas. To another, he is suddenly a Jewish man without any evidence to verify.

Columbus was a Genoese Catholic navigator sailing under the Catholic monarchs of Spain. He sought a western passage to Asia, carried the Cross with him, and opened sustained contact between Europe and the Americas. That achievement changed the world. It brought Christianity, European law, letters, agriculture, and new forms of civilization to lands that had never known them.

Columbus did not arrive among a single, unified people. He encountered rival nations, chiefs, and communities with their own wars, alliances, and interests. Some Indigenous peoples traded with him, guided him, and allied with him against hostile groups and others resisted him.

✝️Happy Columbus Day✝️

Ancient Christian Counsel on Choosing a Wife

“Who can find a virtuous woman? For her price is far above rubies. The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her… She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life."
— Proverb 31:10-12

“She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness.”

— Proverb 31:26

“Let us seek in a wife affectionateness, modest-mindedness, gentleness; these are the characteristics of beauty.”

“Let us not look for wealth, nor for that high-birth which is outward, but for that true nobility which is in the soul.”

— St. John Chrysostom, Homily 20 on Ephesians

The Grand Theater of Progressive Statesmanship

Behold, the rarest spectacle in modern politics: a candidate who promises to arrest a foreign head of state, and who, upon taking office, discovers the "profound wisdom" of allowing him through the door.

Before the election, it was all thunder and righteousness. The city would become a tribunal. The mayor’s office would become a dungeon for the crimes of the Middle East.

He demonstrated the mark of a great fool. The people were furious, yet we are to believe they are not fools. They were not innocent children led astray by a wicked fairy.

They heard the promise. They cheered it. They shared the clips, repeated the slogans, and congratulated themselves on their moral seriousness. Yet many of these same citizens spend their days denouncing government as corrupt, denouncing populism when it wears the wrong colors, and lamenting that politics is a theater of liars.

If one promises to arrest the powerful, one should either possess the courage to attempt it.

Happy Leif Erikson Day

On Leif Erikson Day, we remember not merely an explorer, but a Christian seafarer of the old North, Leif Erikson, son of Iceland and Greenland, who carried the Cross across the western sea long before Columbus sailed beneath the banners of Castile.

Leif had received Christianity in Norway under King Olaf Tryggvason, according to the Saga of the Greenlanders, and returned to Greenland bearing the new faith. Thus, the western voyage belongs to the wider story of Christendom’s expansion.

Let us therefore honor Leif Erikson as a figure of Christian fortitude: a man who crossed perilous waters when navigation was uncertain, horizons were unknown, and the sea offered no promise except danger.

On the Expenditure of a Nation

There is a particular cruelty in the language of distant powers. They speak of “manpower,” of “mobilization targets,” of “necessary sacrifices,” as though a nation were merely a ledger of bodies to be spent by those who will never stand in the rain outside a recruiting office, never wait for a letter from the front, and never bury a son.

Ukraine has already paid in blood beyond what any people should be asked to bear. Its men have been summoned, pressed, pursued, and in too many reported cases treated not as citizens entrusted to the protection of the state, but as material for the furnace of war.

Ukraine’s demographic wound is already grievous. Its fertility rate has fallen to about 0.9 children per woman, far below the 2.1 generally associated with population replacement.

“Justice being taken away, then, what are kingdoms but great robberies?”

On the Duty of Christian Magistrates Toward the Innocent

A nation is not made righteous by polished speech, splendid buildings, or the grandeur of its ceremonies, if its smallest and most defenseless children are denied the protection of law. The burden falls with especial gravity upon the magistrate, the legislator, and every man entrusted with public authority.

A Christian state may impose serious lawful penalties for grave offenses.

“Thou shalt not murder a child by abortion nor kill them when born.”

— The Didache 2.2

“She who has intentionally destroyed the foetus is subject to the penalty of murder.”

— St. Basil the Great, First Canonical Epistle to Amphilochius, Canon 2

“Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you; and before you came forth from the womb, I sanctified you; I have appointed you as a prophet to the nations.”

— Jeremiah 1:5

The ancient Church did not call the destruction of the child in the womb a private affair or an individual choice... It is homicide.

A Christian Gentleman’s Rule

Let no unmarried man presume upon the softness, loneliness, admiration, or hope of an unmarried woman. She is not a diversion for his idle hours, nor an ornament for his vanity, nor a trial of how far he may go without openly disgracing himself. She is a soul redeemed at a terrible price, an image of God, and if she is in Christ, a sister entrusted to his honor.

"Πρεσβυτέρῳ μὴ ἐπιπλήξῃς, ἀλλὰ παρακάλει ὡς πατέρα, νεωτέρους ὡς ἀδελφούς, πρεσβυτέρας ὡς μητέρας, νεωτέρας ὡς ἀδελφὰς ἐν πάσῃ ἁγνίᾳ."

"Do not rebuke an older man harshly, but appeal to him as a father; treat younger men as brothers, older women as mothers, and younger women as sisters, with complete purity."

— 1 Timothy 5:1–2

The gentlemanly Christian therefore does not cultivate affection he has no intention of honoring. A Christian man should not seek a woman’s attachment merely to feel desired. A Christian woman should not invite a man’s pursuit merely to prove her desirability.

Christian Manhood Under God

A Christian man is not measured by noise, appetite, wealth, or the fear he can inspire. He is measured by whether he can govern himself, bear responsibility, defend the weak, speak truth when it costs him, and remain faithful when no applause is given.

The world calls a man strong when he takes what he wants. Christ calls a man strong when he masters what is disordered within himself. The world calls a man powerful when others serve him. Christ teaches that the greater man is he who serves, protects, and sacrifices without demanding worship in return.

He does not need to imitate the tyranny of the age to prove his manhood.

"Γρηγορεῖτε, στήκετε ἐν τῇ πίστει, ἀνδρίζεσθε, κραταιοῦσθε.
Πάντα ὑμῶν ἐν ἀγάπῃ γινέσθω."

“Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong. Let all that you do be done in love.”

— 1 Corinthians 16:13–14
