FRANCE'S DROUGHT STRETCHES DRINKING WATER SUPPLIES FOR 1 MILLION PEOPLE
France’s ongoing historic drought has put drinking water under pressure for around 1 million residents, over 83,000 of whom now depend on emergency support such as bottled water and deliveries by tanker.
Rainfall in September was down 70% compared to average levels. The severe dry conditions have already led to unprecedented reductions in nuclear power output and significantly lower crop harvests.
Water shortages may continue through to 2027.
