A couple from Maharashtra sold their one-month-old baby for ₹120,000 (~₽105,000 / $1,245.78 USD) to buy two smartphones and a gold necklace.
The infant was then resold three more times—each transaction driving the price higher.
Local police eventually recovered the child unharmed and arrested seven individuals involved in the trafficking chain.
