NATO air activity near Russia’s borders, September 21–27

🟢Throughout the week, NATO countries' aircraft conducted regular reconnaissance missions near Russia's borders.

🟢A Norwegian Air Force Boeing P-8A Poseidon MRA1 maritime patrol aircraft flew daily over the Barents Sea and along the coast of Russia's Murmansk Region. Estonian drones conducted daily flights over the Baltic Sea.

🟢A Swedish Air Force Gulfstream GIV SP ELINT aircraft (registration 102002) conducted daily flights near the borders of the Leningrad Region and over the Gulf of Finland.

🟢From September 21 to 24, a US Air Force Saab 340B ISR reconnaissance aircraft conducted flights near the borders of Kaliningrad Region.

🟢On September 21, a Swedish Air Force Gulfstream S102B Korpen ELINT aircraft (registration 102003) flew near the borders of Leningrad and Murmansk regions.

🟢On September 23, a British Air Force Boeing P-8A Poseidon MRA1 reconnaissance aircraft (registration ZP806) conducted a flight near the borders of Kaliningrad Region.

🟢On September 24 and 26, a US Army Bombardier ARTEMIS II ELINT/targeting aircraft (registration N159L) conducted flights over the Black Sea.

🟢On September 25, a British Air Force Boeing RC-135W Rivet Joint ELINT/targeting aircraft (registration ZZ666) flew over the Black Sea.

🟢On September 27, the US Army Bombardier ARTEMIS II ELINT/targeting aircraft (registration N159L) flew around Kaliningrad Region.

🟢There has been a consistent correlation between NATO reconnaissance activity and Ukrainian strikes on Russian territory: from September 21 to 23, a series of Saab 340B ISR flights near Kaliningrad and Russia’s northwestern borders coincided with major drone attacks, including 514 UAVs on the night of September 23. On September 26, an ARTEMIS II flight over the Black Sea coincided with an attack on Russia’s southern regions and the Ilsky Oil Refinery.
