The Trump administration is contemplating a plan to penalize certain NATO member countries that U.S. President Donald Trump believes did not support the United States and Israel during the Iran conflict. According to Odaily, the proposal includes withdrawing U.S. troops from NATO countries that did not provide support and redeploying them to nations more aligned with U.S. military actions.
This proposal is less severe than Trump's recent threats to completely withdraw the United States from NATO, a move he cannot make without congressional approval. The plan has been circulating among senior government officials in recent weeks and has garnered some support. It remains in the preliminary conceptual stage and is one of several punitive measures against NATO being discussed by the White House.
The White House has previously stated that Trump believes NATO has not passed the "test" and plans to discuss "withdrawal" with Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte. According to two government officials, the plan might also involve closing at least one U.S. military base in Europe, potentially in Spain or Germany. Countries like Poland, Romania, Lithuania, and Greece could benefit, as they are viewed as supporters.
The plan could result in more U.S. troops being stationed closer to the Russian border, a move likely to provoke Moscow.#TrumpAdministration #NATO #USTroopRedeployment #IsraelSupport #IranConflict #MilitaryStrategy #WhiteHouse #Poland #Romania #Lithuania #Greece #RussiaBorder #USMilitary #EuropeBases
