Burn-Mint Equilibrium is now live following the upgrade to [Mainnet 17].
The Akash Network has introduced AEP 76, an update to the lease settlement and tenant payment system designed to restore demand for AKT while maintaining stable USD pricing for tenants. According to the proposal, AEP 23 was successful in increasing network revenue but simultaneously also reduced AKT demand, as staking incentives were no longer sufficient.

AEP 76 introduces a new tokenomic model, the Burn-Mint Equilibrium (BME), alongside ACT (Akash Compute Token), a non-transferable, USD-pegged compute credit used for tenant payments. Tenants prepay in ACT, which is minted by burning AKT. At settlement, ACT is burned, and AKT is reminted to providers at the current market price. AKT remains the staking token and settlement currency, while ACT functions as the payment token. The proposal states that “1 ACT is equivalent to around $1 of computer compute.”

The BME mechanism ensures that every dollar of usage triggers an AKT market buy, which is then burned to mint ACT. This system allows tenants to experience stable USD pricing while providers are paid in AKT. ACT temporarily removes AKT from circulation, reducing supply until payouts occur. If AKT’s price rises between funding and payout, fewer tokens are needed to settle invoices, producing a net burn. Conversely, if the price falls, tokens can be reminted, with safeguards including circuit breakers and a governance-seeded buffer to limit risk. Expected benefits include consistent buy pressure on AKT, reduced circulating supply, and potential deflation when network usage grows.

The proposal notes that AEP 76 will not alter consensus or network security and will leverage diverse liquidity sources rather than rely on a single off-chain venue. The community is encouraged to provide feedback on user experience, payout mechanics, governance controls, and risk thresholds prior to implementation.
