Germany’s foreign intelligence chief Martin Jäger warned that the country risks being drawn into a direct conflict with Russia as Moscow intensifies its “shadow war” against Berlin.

He argued Putin has passed the point where he can simply end the war without threatening his own hold on power.

The BND sees no sign of a major Russian attack on NATO but warns smaller operations like those used in Crimea are “entirely possible.”
