NEW: North Korea test-fired a hypersonic missile, claiming it hit a sea target 1,000 km away using a "wave-like trajectory" designed to evade radar.

South Korea and Japan tracked a shorter flight of about 680–700 km.

Photos show a cone-shaped warhead on a solid-fuel booster.

If the 1,000 km range holds, Japanese bases at Sasebo and Iwakuni would be within reach.
