The U.S. Navy’s USS Santa Barbara required urgent repairs in Singapore after documents warned all four engines were operating beyond recommended limits, creating a “critical threat of mechanical failure.”

The ship also had problems with cooling pumps, a non-operational fire pump that weakened firefighting capability, and a stern tube seal whose failure could risk “catastrophic flooding.”

The Navy initially received no bids from contractors for some of the repairs and had to rely on local Singapore facilities. The 7th Fleet said the ship arrived safely and would return to operations after maintenance.
