Syria has begun sending gasoline shipments by road to Iraq, creating a two-way energy corridor after disruptions to shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.

Syrian officials said 77 tanker trucks have already headed toward the Iraqi border.

The route was previously used to move Iraqi fuel oil through Syria for export, but this marks the first gasoline shipments moving in the opposite direction.

Future agreements could expand the corridor to other petroleum products and goods.
