The Trump administration plans to admit up to 17,500 additional White Afrikaners from South Africa as refugees over the next year, according to a notice sent to Congress.

The State Department said the refugee slots will primarily go to Afrikaners, whom Trump has claimed face persecution in South Africa.

The South African government rejects claims of racial persecution, saying Afrikaners are not facing genocide.
