A U.S. Army exercise involving 9,700 soldiers in California exposed major shortcomings in its push toward AI-powered warfare.

Drones overheated, batteries failed, communications broke down, and experimental equipment struggled. Some drones operated without AI or autonomous capabilities.

Despite billions spent on modernization, the Army continues to struggle with unreliable technology, bureaucratic delays and outdated systems.

Officials acknowledged the setbacks but said improvements in communications, AI-assisted planning and data sharing were showing progress.
