The probe comes after longtime Trump donor Eric Deters accused Guilfoyle of requesting $100,000 to pay her American Express bill before her 2025 confirmation hearing, allegedly in exchange for access to senior Trump administration officials.
Deters provided messages appearing to show Guilfoyle instructing him to wire the money directly to American Express so it “won’t show up anywhere.” He said he never paid.
A senior diplomatic official described the investigation as rare and said it had alarmed State Department officials.
