Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth faces bipartisan backlash over plans to livestream the December 3 execution of Nidal Malik Hasan, sentenced to death for killing 13 people in the 2009 Fort Hood shooting.

It would be the U.S. military’s first execution in six decades.

Republican and Democratic lawmakers condemned the plan as a dishonorable public spectacle that could inspire terrorism.

Republican Sen. Thom Tillis said public executions are associated with oppressive regimes like Iran and Afghanistan and “should not be happening in America.”
