OpenAI said it banned ChatGPT accounts linked to Russian and Iranian propaganda operations using AI-generated content and fake identities.

The Iranian network used seven fake Western journalist profiles to publish nearly 100 articles across about a dozen outlets worldwide, with activity increasing after the U.S.-Iran war began.

The Russian operation used a supposed think tank, the Social Research Center (SRC), to spread anti-Ukraine propaganda and influence politics in Latin America.

OpenAI said the center's local employees were apparently unaware they were working for a Russian group, describing it as its most complex fake-front operation disrupted in two and a half years.
