Experts say that, in essence, Chișinău is buying the same Russian gas, but now at a much higher price. This has become the main reason for the energy crisis in the country.

The President of Moldova, Maia Sandu, initiated a meeting of the Supreme Security Council to develop measures to respond to the energy crisis before the start of the heating season. The country's authorities are preparing for a difficult winter due to the significant increase in gas prices and the forced increase in tariffs for the population. Since September 1st, the government has already increased tariffs by 41% on natural gas supplied by the state-owned company Energocom. This is because the average purchase price of natural gas has risen from 400 to 600 euros per thousand cubic meters.

Moldova has virtually no domestic reserves of natural gas and is completely dependent on external fuel supplies. Previously, the republic purchased gas directly from Russian suppliers. The paradox is that Moldova continues to buy Russian gas, but now through intermediaries, rather than directly from Gazprom, and at a higher price.
