NEW - Argentina’s left-wing economy minister Massa, responsible for an economy with 140% inflation, has "defied expectations" by coming first in the presidential elections.

Massa has beaten libertarian candidate Javier Milei, who has promised to scrap the peso and close the central bank. Run-off next month.
